ANDREAS SCHMID

| LICHTUNGEN II-Wien | 2010 |

My light-installations are always closely connected to the actual space. The location becomes an integral part of the work which, due to the individual programming of the light, always produces change and new relationships. The vertical fluorescent tubes in ‘glades’ (‘Lichtungen’) initially appear like a graphic, rhythmic drawing, but penetrate deep into the spatial dimensions. Furthermore the relationships within the group of 21white, as well as coloured fluorescent tubes, alter with the spectator’s movement. The group appears to be ‘in conversation’ with itself, as well as the surrounding area. The installation creates an area that suggests a reflection of the essence and meaning of communication.

VISUAL PIANO

| THE WORLD IS THE CANVAS | 2016 |

‘…Sounds harmless, but is overwhelming! How the beams of white light morph, grid, overlap, become colourful, dance, throw out nets – all that picked up wonderfully by the music, but also going beyond that – it’s simply ingenious. Never has the expression “light organ” been as apt as here, when Theinert improvises with light on his instrument in real time and without link-up to the musician…’. (Oliver Hochkeppel, Süddeutsche Zeitung 3.10.2010)

The abstract projections fill the entire space. The world, as it is, becomes a canvas and merges with the artistic expression of the light graphics. We suddenly become aware that that which we see is merely a constantly changing membrane of light appearance … read more.

JAN DOMS

| ZIGGURAT | 2017 |

Ziggurat is the fifth in a series of archi-sculptures that Jan Doms has designed and constructed in order to give expression to the surrounding architectural space and landscape. Under the influence of the continuously changing light and the chosen arrangement and angles, these architectural glass constructions give a glittering reflection of their surroundings. By choosing where he stands the viewer can add his own dynamic to the work.

DOMINIQUE JÉZÉQUEL

It is these radiant colour fields of monochrome glass panels which fill cool architecture with intensive colour moods. Dominique Jézéquel (*1951/F) reduces colour and form to a radical minimum, thus the spaces become places of physical and emotional experience. In light the presence of colour becomes fascinating. Light offers the opportunity of motion. In my videos the colours are lively. Big surfaces are illuminated from behind and immerse spaces with coloured light which changes continuously.

INGO WENDT

CHRONOTOP | 2016

The system idiosyncratically visualises the path of an individual, contemplative time that each viewer may define for himself. With this extensive kinetic sculpture I have combined the features of a watch. What can be seen on rounded projection walls are live analogue projections of an abstracted colour dial and a silhouette of the working clock mechanism. Their origin is found in the in-between positioned cylindrical apparatus. (Ingo Wendt, Ebertsheim/D)

NABO GASS

Maria, Maria – Illuminations | 2008

In his light tableau Nabo Gass overlays transparent portraits of people linked in a special way by fate or coincidence.

“Maria, Maria” shows Callas who, with her voice, conquered the world. On examination with corresponding light action a second layer becomes visible: the deaf-mute Maria officially became famous through a mug shot. Two lives that just about touch due to this diversity’. (Nabo Gass/Wiesbaden)

STEFFEN TAST

PISA | 2013

PISA is a phantasy of a plant – with leaves – and a flower. Light appears as a concrete source of light – in the form of optical fibres but also as reflections and double reflections of other materials used in the work such as glass and steel.

High-bay warehouse, solar facade and light sculpture | 2012

The glass solar facade of the high-bay warehouse (architect : Norbert Wortmann) of Ernstings Grund& Bau in Coesfeld with 10,000 m2 changes in the darkness of the night into a huge light sculpture. The robots for stacking the goods inside are colour sprayed and equipped with lights so that the choreography of the up and down moving masts is visible outside.
