The artistic exploration of the watercourse of the Oker and its 24 bridges is at the focus of the Lightparcours 2020. For centuries, the historic city centre of Braunschweig has been significantly influenced by this topographically dominant river. The works of art have been conceived site-specifically in an examination of the geography and history of Braunschweig. → Read more

Power! Light!
Light > political, social, ecological positions in art
At the beginning of the modern age, artificial light was considered a symbol of modern life. Even though life without artificial light is unthinkable today, it is also associated with light pollution and energy waste, despite technical advancements and undeniable benefits. The exhibition and publication project Macht! Licht! exhibition and publication project at the Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg presents artistic positions that consciously focus on political, ecological or social statements and critically comment on the use of light – and thus also, in a figurative sense, on the use of resources. → Read more

Adam Barker-Mill
Deceptively simplistic appearance
→ Read more

Adam Barker-Mill
Deceptively simplistic appearance
Adam Barker-Mill (*1940, Somerset/UK) has been studying the physical properties of light since the 1960s. His works have a deceptively simplistic appearance, allowing the viewer to maintain an idealistic visual, acutely unaware of the carefully structured designs, which generate, manipulate and modulate light. His works are characterized by formal austerity, which takes a step back behind the magical unfolding of coloured light allowing a concentrated experience of the often in certain rhythms changing light fields, due to the viewers positioning and natural light conditions. → Read more

International Light Art Award 2019
The Future of Light Art
Light affects our visual culture constantly while operating in the background. Despite its increasing impact, light is underrepresented in both, the public and artistic discourse. One single museum has dedicated itself exclusively to the collection and presentation of this specific art form: The Centre for International Light Art (CfIL). In cooperation with the innogy Stiftung für Energie und Gesellschaft the CfIL has been awarding a biennial price since 2015: The International Light Art Award (ILAA). → Read more
