Bringing life to public spaces with Light Art
As the grand finale of the EU-funded Light Art in Public Spaces (LAiPS) project, LUCI Association together with the cities of Lyon, Oulu and Turin are organizing the international conference “Bringing life to public spaces with Light Art” in Turin, Italy on 2-3 November 2023.

LAiPS is a 3-year EU project that aims to strengthen city capacities on permanent light art installations in public spaces.
The conference will present the findings from site visits and peer-to-peer discussions of the project partners during the Light & Art Labs as well as present a new digital tool that was created by the partners to promote knowledge and exchange on light art in the urban space.
The conference gathers the knowledge collected by the partners over three years and explores further the benefits and challenges of light & art for cities and will be a a unique opportunity to learn, join and network.
First speakers will be announced in September on the communication channels of LUCI Association.
International conference in Turin/Italy > PROGRAMME
During the 2-day conference, participants will hear from speakers from governmental, artistic, academic as well as technical fields how light art connects to:
Creative placemaking – inclusion of local communities + creating a welcoming neighborhood
Local economy – boosting interest of locals and visitors to add value to public spaces
Innovative Technologies – how they can bring a new interactive dimension to cities
Sustainability – methods to create lasting and environmentally friendly light art
Governance – working collectively, including citizens in the light art projects
Experience light art in practice
Alongside the keynote, there will be short presentations, roundtables and an interactive session that all focus on the power and benefits of light art in urban spaces. Participants will experience in-person the Luci d’artista light festival installations through night visits. These guided tours will also offer the unique opportunity to test the LAiPS digital tool, the Light & Art Map, which will be launched during the conference.
