Mischa Kuball

Exhibition | Mai 5 – September 19, 2021

The exhibition has a retrospective character. For the first time, it shows a cross-section of Mischa Kuball’s work of the last three decades, including impressive spatial installations, photographs, video projections, documentations and works from the public preposition complex. At the centre of his extensive oeuvre is the visual medium of light, with which he not only creates impressive installations that can be experienced by the senses, but also triggers reflections – whether physical or philosophical. With the selection of concise works, the show presents Kuball’s fundamental ideas. Thus, through a series of large spatial installations, the use of light is combined with a reflection on social, political and scientific questions.

In an age increasingly permeated by so-called ‘alternative truths’ in both the private and political spheres, the artist poses central questions of meaning. In his work, he reveals social modes of action and political discourses, which are at the same time subjected to a revision with his works. Works created especially for the exhibition or placed in a new context expand the show to include current socio-political references. The architecture and the immediate surroundings of the museum buildings will also be included in the exhibition.
