International Light Art Award 2019

Exhibition | June 8  – November 10, 2019

The Future of Light Art

Light affects our visual culture constantly while operating in the background. Despite its increasing impact, light is underrepresented in both, the public and artistic discourse. One single museum has dedicated itself exclusively to the collection and presentation of this specific art form: The Centre for International Light Art (CfIL). In cooperation with the innogy Stiftung für Energie und Gesellschaft the CfIL has been awarding a biennial price since 2015: The International Light Art Award (ILAA). By means of the award emerging artists within the genre shall be sponsored and supported. This year 357 submissions from 61 countries answered the open call.

From all applications an internationally renowned jury* chose three final concepts:

    • Myrkviðr – Yasuhiro Chida
    • LIGHT HIGH – Jacqueline Hen
    • Negative Space of Light – Dachroth&Jeschonnek

All finalists are provided a budget of 10,000 EUR each to realize their concepts. The jury will select a winner on the basis of the realized concepts, who will then receive a supplementary prize money of 10,000 EUR. For the first time, a public award will be handed out additionally to the jury voting. In this sense, even visitors can become winners.  >read the complete article in the May issue of ArtLight<
